About Coachella Valley Alumnae Panhellenic ("CVAP")

Since 1954, CVAP has awarded over 500 scholarships to college-bound young women graduates of Coachella Valley public high schools.

The Coachella Valley Alumnae Panhellenic (CVAP) is open to alumnae of any National Panhellenic sorority living, part time or full time, in the Coachella Valley. Believed to be the oldest continuous nonprofit organization in the Coachella Valley, CVAP was established in 1954 at the home of Lillian Carter in Bermuda Dunes, CA. It has grown from a small group of women to a dynamic organization of over 100 members from every part of the United States. Many are winter residents who find friends and fun in the desert during the season. CVAP members represent all major professional fields, including education, technology, law, medicine, business, and the arts.

As an all-volunteer organization, we have survived the test of time. Our members are on the boards of dozens of local and national organizations and have received numerous awards for their contributions to the community. Our membership age ranges from 35 to 101.

The successes of our annual scholarship program and community outreach activities have earned CVAP numerous National Panhellenic Conference Awards including being honored at NPC’s Annual Convention as the Number One Outstanding Alumnae Panhellenic for 2009 – 2011, and more recently in 2025 the following awards: Enhancement of the Alumnae Experience, Community Service/Philanthropy, College Panhellenic Connections, and Promotion of Sorority Experience.

Several desert cities comprise the Coachella Valley and the cities have continued to experience rapid population growth over the last several years. New public high schools have been built in recent years, affording CVAP the opportunity to encourage more young women to apply for scholarships.

Since 1954, CVAP has awarded over 650 scholarships to college-bound young women graduates from Coachella Valley public high schools. All the recipients are deserving of our scholarships, some of whom are the first in their families to attend college. Coachella Valley Alumnae Panhellenic also encourages our scholarship recipients who subsequently pledge a national sorority/fraternity to apply for our Sorority Membership Award designed to help defray sorority/fraternity expenses.
